Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and organize electronic medical records while ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Review medical documentation submitted by physicians and clinical staff for completeness and consistency.
  • Process requests for medical records in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
  • Verify patient demographic information and ensure medical records are properly indexed within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, coders, billing specialists, and administrative personnel to resolve documentation issues.
  • Assist with internal and external medical record audits.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Support continuous process improvement initiatives related to health information management.
  • Monitor documentation quality and report discrepancies when identified.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience working in a healthcare, hospital, clinic, or medical office environment.
  • Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with any of the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

  • RHIT or RHIA certification.
  • Experience working with Epic, Cerner, or Meditech EHR systems.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Joint Commission, and healthcare documentation standards.
  • Previous experience supporting medical coding or revenue cycle departments.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
